Newly-elected UP MLAs take oath
Lucknow, Apr 11 (PTI) The newly-elected MLAs of the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha today took oath as members of the House. Senior Samajwadi Party leaders, including ministers in the new government, were the first among those who took oath in the presence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. While majority of the members took oath today, those who could not do so, would be administered the oath tomorrow, sources in the Vidhan Sabha said. The election of the Assembly Speaker would be held on April 13. Oath to the new members of the 16th state Assembly is being administered almost a month after the declaration of the poll results. In the 403-member House, one seat is vacant following the resignation of RLD’s Jayant Chaudhary from Math Vidhan Sabha seat. Chaudhary has decided to retain his Lok Sabha seat. Akhilesh, who took the oath of the Chief Minister on March 15, is currently not a member of either of the Houses and would be contesting the Legislative Council’s elections scheduled for later this month.
